Take a Bite of This Gorgeous Treat If You Dare

A Wicked Twist On an Autumn Favorite

This year for Halloween, I wanted to try something really unique. I’ve made plenty of the standard “scary” foods, but this recipe really takes the cake. It’s an amazing candied apple treat that looks like something a professional chef spent hours creating. If you’ve never made candied apples before, have no fear. It’s not a difficult process, and it’s easy for kids to help. These look like something that an evil Queen might offer to an unsuspecting princess, and they are a ton of fun to eat. Sink your teeth into the evilest food on the menu at this year’s party.

One of the reasons I like this recipe so much is that it’s very adaptable. Want to make some poison apples like the recipe calls for? Go for it. Want to make your own holiday-themed apples at another time? You can tweak this recipe easily, just choose a different icing color and you’re ready to go. Next time you want to really impress, whip up a batch of these. It’s not the fastest treat I’ve ever made, but it’s worth the few extra steps necessary to get the candied shell just right.

Quick Tip: Choose a firm apple to get the best candied apple. Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples work perfectly.
