Nothing Boring About This Sweet Pie

A Colorful Twist To A Holiday Classic

The first year I had a sweet potato pie it was because my aunt picked up the wrong pies. I adore pumpkin pie! I can’t wait for that first slice after a big thanksgiving dinner. My poor aunt. I was ten years old. I should probably still apologize some thirty years later.

She had run out of time to make her homemade pumpkin pies and ran by the store on the way to our house. In her hurry she picked up sweet potato instead of pumpkin and none of us knew until that first bite. I cried that thanksgiving. I was so disappointed and no amount of coaxing would convince me that sweet potato was just as good as pumpkin.

My taste buds have changed. I LOVE sweet potato pie and could eat it year round now.

Everything about the fall is delicious. The pumpkins, yams, turkeys, apples, chiles, and so much more. I’m deffinietly more adventurous and willing to try new things. I’m trying to teach my kids to be more like the new grown up me, and a little less like the spoiled sad ten year old me. So I introduced them to this purple pie.

Quick tip: Cut the purple yams evenly for a faster, even cook.
