Go Ahead, Try To Eat Just One!

I don’t know what it is about the taste of salted caramel that has been driving me nuts lately. I have developed a serious craving for anything and everything that combines the taste of sweet caramel with salt. When I saw this recipe for these salted caramel butter bars, I was a goner, for sure!

These are on my weekend to-do list. The ingredients are so simple that I have most of them on-hand right now. I just have to go out in search of the caramel candies. Those should only take a few minutes detour from my planned route in the market. Then I will be dashing home to get these started and into the oven.

By the time I have finished dinner, they will be ready to come out of the oven. I’m sure the smell of them baking will drive me wild. It will be all I can do to restrain myself from diving face-first into that steaming hot baking pan of buttery goodness.

But I will forbear, and try to act with a modicum of dignity. Because I really don’t need to eat a whole pan of these, I intend to cut them into smallish bars and freeze most of them in small portions. This will help me keep a rein on my temptation, At least that’s the idea….

Quick Tip:  Because these will be quite gooey, you can use parchment paper draped up and over the sides of your baking dish so that you can lift them out easily, once the final baking is complete.
