With all the fancy and over the top recipes that are swarming the internet these days (and that I love!) it can sometimes be easy to forget the basics. The tried and true dishes that everyone loves. The classics that remind you of childhood dinners with your family and make you feel all warm and cozy inside.

In an effort to no longer let these foods be shunned to the wayside in favor of the new hottest food trend of the week, I created the menu for our family Thanksgiving this year and made sure to keep it strictly traditional. No eight layer pumpkin cheesecake cakes or truffle dusted green bean casserole. Instead, we’ll be serving up the dishes everyone loves most: turkey and gravy, stuffing, potatoes and all the pumpkin pie you could want.

I’ve delegated quite a few of the items to other family members to ensure I don’t lost my mind before the big day. But there are a few things I’ve kept to myself.

I’ll be making the turkey and gravy—it would be tricky to transport a 20-pound bird! And the dinner rolls. For me those little bites of heaven are the start of the dinner!
