Not Your Granny’s Green Bean Casserole!
If you asked 100 Americans to name the one dish that always, without fail, shows up at any family gathering, the majority would identify the ubiquitous green bean casserole. We must really like this, too, because it is usually the first bowl to be emptied and I’ve never seen anyone in my family take home a plate of leftovers that included green bean casserole.
But folks, there are as many ways to prepare a green bean casserole as there are ways to get from Point A to Point B. Is there some strange reason why we always end up with green beans, mushroom soup and fried onions? When I saw Kristyn’s take on the dreaded green bean casserole, I knew she had a hit on her hands right away. Not only does her casserole contain green beans, but there is also cream cheese, chicken and stuffing. As Kristyn says, “….you can never go wrong with topping a casserole with stuffing mix.” How’s that for thinking outside of the box?
The next time you have occasion to go to a family gathering, go ahead and volunteer to bring the green bean casserole. Trust me, everybody will be happy that it is not their responsibility!

Quick Tip: Note that this recipe requires some lengthy refrigeration time before it is oven-ready. This allows time for the sauce to thicken up as it interacts with the other ingredients. You don’t have to refrigerate it for a full 24 hours, but making it the night before and letting it sit in your fridge overnight would be good. Likewise, making it early in the morning and letting it sit until right before dinner would be acceptable.
