To Make Them Any Easier, I’d Have To Bake Them For You!

  • congo bars

I can hardly wait until I have all of the ingredients I need in order to be able to try my hand at these. Who knows, if they turn out well, they may become my go-to baked good. I will trot them out at every potluck, luncheon and social gathering I attend. They will become my signature dish!

I am sure that they will be tasty. I am also sure that every one of my friends is going to want the recipe for them, as well. None of us have a lot of time to devote to doing all those “nice-to-do” things around our houses, like baking. Or cleaning. So we tend to give things a lick-and-a-promise and subsist on frozen dinner and fast food. These could be a game-changer!

INGREDIENTS

2 cups brown sugar

2/3 cup salted butter (softened)

3 eggs

2½ cup flour

2¼ tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 tsp. vanilla

1½ – 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS

Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees F. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add in eggs and vanilla and stir until combined.

Mix the baking powder and salt with 1 cup of flour. Pour into the butter mixture and stir in the rest of the flour. Fold in chocolate chips.

Grease a 12×14 pan (13×9 will work too) and lightly dust with flour. Press dough into pan with flour on your hands. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until lightly browned. Oven temps will vary.

Test with a tooth pick. The dough should be soft in the center.

Allow bars to cool and then enjoy with a cold glass of milk!

Quick Tip:  For a change of pace, try adding almonds, pecans or walnuts to the batter and sprinkled on the top.
