You Don’t Have to Wait for a Camp Out to Have a Fun Hobo Dinner
This past summer, my family went camping a few times, and there is nothing more fun to the kids than cooking up the classic “hobo meal”. This is when you take meat, vegetables, potatoes, and some seasonings, wrap it all up in a piece of tinfoil, and toss it on or over the fire. The kids love the idea that they are cooking up their own dinner and it’s a fun way to have a simple meal. But now that we aren’t camping so much anymore, we’ve been missing this simple yet delicious dinner time.
When I found this recipe by the mastermind at The Magical Slow Cooker, I was shocked to see that I could easily replicate our hobo dinners in the crock pot! Granted this takes a little extra prep to mix together a meatloaf, but it’s worth it! While this recipe is straightforward and simple, sometimes you don’t need to improve on a classic. The cooking method in the slow cooker is the ingenious part here, and the kids loved getting to taste our fun camping dinners again. Big thanks to The Magical Slow Cooker for making that happen – I could always use another fast and easy weeknight meal in my rotation.

Quick tip: Try to keep the meatloaf away from the sides of the cooker when shaping into the cooker. This will prevent burning on the sides.
