You Just Gotta Give ‘Em A Hand For This Great Halloween Recipe

You’ve Never Had This Dish, Made This Way!

The sense of excitement and anticipation with which children await the arrival of Halloween is second only to their frenzied state while waiting for jolly old Saint Nick to pay them a visit. Their little minds are filled with visions of candy of every description. They discuss their costumes for the Big Night with the reverence accorded the haute couture of Paris runways.

They devise collection strategies and devious little plots to play tricks on certain neighbors while they are scampering about in the gathering gloom, raking in hoards of tasty contraband. They are just kids, for heaven’s sake, but during this particular time of year, they are like miniature seasoned commandos, poring over battle plans for storming an enemy’s stronghold. To them, there is no more serious business afoot.

Is it any small wonder, then, that you cannot get them to sit down and have a decent, filling meal before they scramble out the door, jostling for position, costumes flapping in the breeze created by their stampeding throng? Of course it isn’t! Ah, but a chicken pot pie? One of their all-time favorites? This creepy-crawly recipe from Iain just might do the trick (no pun intended, but funny, nonetheless). But where’s the crust? Oh, gross! It’s waving to you from the bowl! Bwahahaha!

Quick Tip:  Don’t happen to have a hand-shaped cookie cutter sitting at the ready for this recipe? No problem! Just trace the hand of one or more of your little darlings and cut the shape out of sturdy, clean cardboard, cardstock or poster board. You can then lay that shape on the puff pastry and cut around it with a sharp paring knife. This way, each child’s hand can wave at them from the pot pie.
