Just 4 Quick Ingredients is All You Need for Game Day Meatballs

  • dr pepper meatballs

So as you have guessed by now, the secret ingredient is Dr. Pepper. It may sound weird at first but the acidic nature of soda really makes the meatballs tender and juicy. Plus the flavor cooks away, so you won’t get a mouthful of what tastes like hot soda. Instead it’s a sweet and tangy sauce that has just enough kick to be interesting. Liquid smoke rounds it out with a barbecue twist. This recipe has everything you need for a fast and easy appetizer. Thanks again to Go Go Go Gourmet for this one, I’ll be saving it for a last minute rush.

Ingredients

3 cups ketchup

3 cans Dr. Pepper

1 tablespoon liquid smoke

2 lbs frozen meatballs

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, Dr Pepper and liquid smoke. Set over medium heat and simmer until reduced by ⅓.

Pour the meatballs into a slow cooker and top with sauce.

Cook on HIGH for 3 hours.

Quick tip: This recipe uses frozen meatballs for convenience, but you could easily make your own. Just increase your cook time to ensure that the meatballs are cooked all the way through.
