Yes, applesauce is really one of the most simple and humble foods on the planet. But that doesn’t mean it should be overlooked! Especially when a healthy slow cooker recipes is as quick, easy and hands off as this! No pot to babysit on the stove, no stirring, and minimal chopping. And yet you’ll end up with the most delicious homemade apple sauce!
I love to make a big batch of this for a side dish (if you like the pairing of savory and sweet flavors) or topping it with caramel for a guilt free dessert. It makes a good sized batch so there’s plenty to share. Your family will love it!
Ingredients
12 apples (a sweeter variety works best)
½ cup sugar (white or brown)
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
Peel & core apples. Cut into quarter and place in your crock pot.
Coat apples in lemon juice then mix in the rest of the ingredients.
Cook on high for 3-4 hours until apples are very soft. Mash with a potato masher or for really smooth sauce puree with an immersion blender.
