Why One Method Fails And Another Succeeds – Which Will You Choose?

I have no idea how things were, growing up in your house. In my family, we were just working-class poor, with way too many mouths to feed on limited income. At one point, there were 7 kids and 2 adults. A family of that size can go through a LOT of groceries in a very short time.

So my mother had to economize where she could. We ate a lot of soups and pasta dishes, because they were not only inexpensive, but also simple to prepare, since she had limited cooking skills at her disposal. Her mother had never taught her how to cook. This was because my grandmother had never learned how to cook, either. She had been too busy as a young girl and teenager going around with her grandfather, who was a doctor, and assisting him with his medical practice.

But one dish that my mother somehow figured out how to prepare was Salisbury Steak. This required a lot of time standing over a hot stove, which made her cranky and impatient with a house full of riotous children and teenagers, ranging from 4 to 17 years of age. So she didn’t like being tied to the stove like that. Too bad that she didn’t have Lacie’s comforting recipe for Salisbury Steak Bake. That’s right, the secret “ingredient” in this recipe is your oven!

Quick Tip:  Want to have this meal ready-to-bake at a moment’s notice? When you bring home the beef, go ahead and make it into 3 patties/pound and freeze them. When you are ready to bake, just go ahead and put the frozen patties in your casserole dish and proceed with the recipe, adding 15 minutes to the cook time.
