The Aromatic Flavors of This Italian Classic Will Impress Any Guest

Have you ever experienced the authentic cuisine of a culture and it was nothing like you were expecting? I recently had the chance to try some real Italian food – not the stuff from the chain restaurants, but a pasta dish cooked up by a wonderful Italian grandmother. I was most surprised by how simple the ingredients were – and yet how flavorful everything was. Without any of the fancy-sounding ingredients I’ve come to expect from this cuisine, the food was delicate and nuanced in a way that I’ve never experienced before. It was enough to make me want to go hunting for the recipe for what I ate.

It turns out that what I had is a classic Italian sauce called beef Bolognese, and this recipe from Jessica Gavin is a dead ringer for the tasty meal that I had. The key is having a bit of patience with the cooking method. Instead of using fancy ingredients to cover up a quick cooking job, you let simple ingredients simmer slowly and the flavors start to bloom in ways you could never imagine. This is the perfect meal for any night, weekend or weeknight, when you want to really luxuriate in something delicious.

Quick tip: If you don’t have pappardelle noodles handy, try any wide, flat pasta like fettuccini or tagliatelle.
