It’s Time To Kick Your Holiday Baking Up A Notch With These Perfect Cut-Out Cookies

I grew up in a household that didn’t really get to enjoy sweets or dessert. Both my parents were extremely health conscious, which meant that for us a special treat after dinner consisted of some type of fruit—or if we were really lucky fruit juice. These days I do things differently with my kids. Our favorite thing to bake? Classic and best cut out cookies.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m not totally upset about it. I attribute the way I grew up for making me enjoy eating things like fruits, vegetables and other typically “healthy” foods that most people seem to eat more out of obligation than enjoyment. But I’ll never turn down a roasted vegetable or salad filled with lettuce fresh from the garden.

But that doesn’t mean I haven’t branched out into enjoying a more traditional dessert every now and then. I have children of my own now, and we have a weekly tradition of making one small batch dessert for the family to share.

Back to the classic cut-out Christmas cookies. We make the same recipe every year and my family just loves them—and so does everyone we share them with.

I like to think I’m just that great of a baker, but really I think this is just a winning recipe.
