This recipe certainly creates détente between the US and France. It is really the melding of two comfort foods into one ooey, gooey mess of a dish. Kids will love this because it is finger food that they can transport with them on their latest adventure. Adults will love it for the crunch of the bread and all of the melted cheese on top.
This dish is very versatile. It can be an after school snack for the kids, party food for adults, brunch food for your friends or even an easy and very quick weeknight meal for your entire family. Using the Manwich product, you will have this entire dish prepared and on your table in less than 20 minutes.
INGREDIENTS
1 loaf French bread, cut in half lengthwise
2 bell peppers (any color)
½ medium onion, diced
1 pound Ground Chuck or Sirloin Beef
1 15-ounce can Manwich Bold Sauce
2-3 cups shredded Cheddar and Jack Cheeses (combined)
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a sheet pan with foil and place bread halves side by side, cut side up.
In a large sauté pan or pot, heat about a tablespoon of olive oil. Add onion and cook for about 2 minutes, then add the bell peppers and cook for about 3 minutes, until veggies are beginning to soften. Crumble in ground beef, seasoning with a little salt and pepper. Cook until beef is no longer pink. Drain. Stir in Manwich sauce and heat through.
Spread meat mixture evenly on the French bread halves. Top with desired amount of cheese.
Bake for about 10 minutes, or until cheese is nice and melted.
Cool for a few minutes before slicing into 2-inch wide strips.

Quick Tip: To keep the meat and sauce from soaking into the bread too quickly and making it hard to eat as finger food, simply toast the bread in your oven for 5-10 minutes until it is toasted to your preferred level of darkness, then proceed with the recipe.
