Southerners DO Love A Good Lush!

Who loves peanut butter and chocolate? I thought so – I see the millions of you out there, wildly waving your hands in the air! Just look at that image – are you drooling yet? Want to know what it is? This, dear friends, is a layered no-bake dessert form known as a “lush.”

You can certainly see how it got its name, for it is the very definition of the word:  dense, thick, succulent, opulent, extravagant and sumptuous. Not to mention very rich and providing great sensory pleasure. Here in the South, the lush is one of our most treasured and cherished desserts. This one is a real jaw-dropping doozy! It is made from that most dearly-loved candy bar, the kind of them all, the Butterfinger!

As impressive as they are, lushes are quite easy to make. Can’t be that easy, you say, not with all of those layers! Well, you are going to have to trust me on this. Do you think any sweet Southern belle is going to spoil her nice manicure by banging her hands around in pots, pans and bowls in the kitchen? Or ruin her perfectly coiffed hair and impeccably made-up face standing over a hot stove? Of course not!

Quick Tip:  When you refrigerate this, don’t cover it. Condensation will form on the inside of whatever you would use as a cover, drip down onto the Cool Whip top layer and spoil its pristine appearance, and might even make it a tad soupy, in places.
