Last year my baby sister had her first baby—a darling little girl! She was was my first niece or nephew and I adore spoiling her every chance I get. For her first birthday I helped throw her a princess themed party complete with a tower of pink, sparkly cupcakes and a smash cake to match. I thought my sister had loved the over the top birthday party, but it turns out she wasn’t as big of fan of the fanfare as I was.
I love any excuse to throw a party and have a tendency to go a bit overboard. So until my sister told me that for my niece’s next birthdy she wanted something simpler I had no idea. It’s a good thing she did, though, as I had visions of an elaborate pony-themed party dancing in my head…
To heed her wishes I’ve started searching for simpler recipes that would be the perfect addition to a small, intimate party with family and friends. At first nothing was really catching my eye—I’ve got a sweet tooth that can’t be tamed—but then this recipe popped up.
It was shockingly simple but also totally unexpected. The perfect party treat!

Quick tip: You can use this same base recipe to make regular brownies—jus tuse six ounces of regular baking chocolate and increase the sugar by ¼ cup.
