Thanksgiving, Christmas, Tuesday? Any Occasion Is The Right Occasion For This Tasty Dish
The fist Thanksgiving I spent with my now husband’s family was quite an experience. His family is huge (we celebrated with his dad’s side of the family and his dad has nine siblings!) and loud—the complete opposite of mine. The entire night was a blur of conversation, kids running around, and more food than I’d ever seen in one place outside of a restaurant.
Intially, I felt a little out of place. I was used to family holidays consisting of about 10 people where everyone hung out together. With his family everyone was off in their own little groups wherever they could find room, so I followed my future hubby around llike a puppy for the first hour we were there.
Finally, though, I decided to branch out a little and get to know people. After all, I wanted them to like me! So I struck up a conversation with his grandmother by asking her if there was anything I could help with. She refused my offer (still does, actually) but began telling me about all their family recipes.
One in particular she was most excited about my trying. She said her mother had come up with it after forgetting sweet potatoes.

Quick tip: Swap out half of the white sugar for brown sugar for a more carmelized flavor in the final dish.
