Festive Halloween Treat To Eat On The Go

You Should Eat These Every Day

I have always loved granola bars. I think this is because, when they first started appearing on the market, we were not allowed to have them. Deprivation makes the heart grow fonder, to paraphrase an old saw. Naturally, granola bars became contraband, and being caught with one in your possession, let alone actually being eaten, was grounds for swift and severe punishment.

Can you imagine? It is not like they are candy, although some of them are pushing that boundary today. The earlier versions, however, were actually pretty healthy, being composed largely of grains and nuts, with a bit of spice and some sugar. They were dry, so crunchy you couldn’t eat them without making a racket and not all that tasty, truth be told. But they had a mystique about them, an exotic attraction that could not be resisted.

Pamela’s decorative and tasty version is perfect for Halloween breakfast, a mid-afternoon snack or even a dessert. I have always like the portable nature of such bars. They are not a gooey, sticky mess that requires a 3-napkin clean-up afterwards, and you can stick them in your purse or briefcase and dash out of the house on those mornings when you are running late.

Quick Tip:  If you are planning on eating your granola bar for dessert, try heating it for about 30 seconds in your microwave and adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream,
