This Is Hands Down One Of The Best Desserts We’ve Ever Had
I can distinctly remember the first time I tried this cherry chocolate cake. It’s that good. It was for a birthday potluck at work that happened every May. We were a small office team—just 12 of us total—and four of the 12 had May birthdays. So the first Friday of every May we’d all bring a dish in to share and dig in.
This particular year seemed to have even tastier dishes than normal with everyone coming back for seconds and thirds throughout the afternoon. My co-worker Tina and I were fortunate to have our desks closest to our break room and found it nearly impossible to get our work done with so much delicious food tempting us from mere feet away!
We always had a rule at these potlucks—there could as many desserts as people wanted but there could only be one cake. And the cake was chosen collectively by the birthday group. All the food could be eaten whenever and wherever, but we always made sure to wait to serve the birthday cake complete with candles and singing.
Every year the cakes had been good—I mean it’s cake after all—but this particular year’s cake was literally one of the best things I had ever eaten.

Quick tip: To really make this recipe easy frost with canned chocolate frosting—it tastes similar to the boiled frosting in the recipe.
