Bring A Taste Of Philly To Your House

  • philly cheesesteak sloppy joes

Quick, Easy & Delicious

The sloppy joe sandwich has to be one of the most-loved sandwiches that there is. It has been modified to reflect the cuisine of just about every meat-eating culture around the world. In the U. S., each region of the country has their own unique, and sometimes highly creative, version.

Known as “loose meat” sandwiches in many regions, which describes how the meat is browned into crumbles, as opposed to being compacted in to the patty form for a simple hamburger, these sloppy-to-eat sandwiches are favorites of children and adults, alike. Growing up, “sloppy joe night” was highly anticipated, and I’m sure we ate them for dinner at least once every week, with the leftovers becoming the next day’s lunch.

This particular version comes from the Eastern seaboard region that includes the city Philadelphia, as well as parts of New Jersey and New York States. What makes it uniquely tied to this region? It is the inclusion of peppers, onions and cheese, in direct imitation of the famous Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, which is made from thin slices of steak that often have been chopped and mixed with the peppers and onions. Depending on where you get your cheesesteak, it may be topped with Provolone cheese or Cheez Whiz!

Quick Tip:  These would taste even better if you toasted the buns for a few minutes under the broiler before assembling.
