Even you picky eaters will happily gobble up this vegetable side dish on gobble-gobble day! That’s for one main ingredient: bacon. That got your attention I bet!
I’ve had my fair share of the classic green bean casserole with cream of mushroom soup and crunchy fried onion strings, but this recipe if my family’s new favorite way to eat green beans.
If you really want those fried onion strings in your dish, you can always add a layer on top to add additional texture and flavor. This is the holiday of eating, so I always say, “go big or go home!”
Ingredients:
2 lbs green beans (use frozen or fresh)
6-7 slices bacon, chopped into one inch pieces
6 cups chicken broth
2 tbsp Garlic Powder
1/2-1 tbsp Salt
1/2-1 tbsp Pepper
½ stick Butter
Instructions:
Cook bacon until crispy, then remove from pot.
Add green beans to bacon grease and stir to coat well.
Add bacon back to pot. Add broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a boil then turn down to a simmer and cook until tender.
Add butter when beans are almost done. Season with additional salt and pepper as needed.
