Try This Casserole For a Fun Twist On a Family Favorite

A few years ago I was at a family reunion with my husband’s family. Everyone was having a great time playing yard games, sharing a drink, catching up on life and munching on some delicious food. His family—especially his grandmother—are known for their cooking. And I’ve been fortunate to have been passed down many of their famous recipes.

At this particular event I remember that one dish had really stood out to me and I found myself going back to it throughout the day to get just a little bit more (pretty sure my “little bit more” really meant two or three plates full).

When I asked his mom for the recipe she gave me a weird look and said, “Really? Out of everything here that’s the recipe you want?” Apparently, it was the family recipe everyone turned to when they just wanted something quick and easy to feed a crowd—they never thought of it as that good.

But I finally convinced her that I did indeed love it that much and she handed over the recipe. It wasn’t even a week later when I made it again for my husband and I. It was just as good as I remembered!
