Don’t Pesto Me….and Stop Calling Me Shrimp!
Of all the types of seafood that I have come to know and love – all types of fish, swordfish, crab, calamari, oysters, and clams – shrimp has to be my favorite, hands down. I am absolutely certain that I could eat my weight in shrimp! With the wide variety of shrimp recipes available, I could eat shrimp every night for a year and never eat the same thing twice. Shrimp is a taste of heaven, to me!
The reason that there are so many shrimp recipes, and such diverse recipes, at that, is because shrimp is so mild-tasting and will easily take on the characteristics of the food you pair it with. Nearly every culture’s cuisine that I have ever studied has at least one shrimp dish. Cultures with ready access to a sea usually have many dishes featuring shrimp as the protein.
I have been known to go to a swanky restaurant, just to feast on shrimp for my entire meal. I will start with a Bloody Mary decorated with shrimp on a skewer, order jumbo shrimp cocktail, dive into a spinach salad with shrimp and oranges, tuck into a shrimp entrée (like this one), and then have a shrimp dessert! Ah, the perfect meal!

Quick Tip: To save time and effort, you can buy shrimp that have already been peeled and deveined.
