Skip Making Cookies And Make These Bars Instead—Faster And Easier
I’m a selective baker—can any of you relate? I’m either the most enthusiastic baker in the world, whipping up cakes and pie and cookies from scratch in a tornado of sugar and flour. Or I have zero desire to bake a darn thing. Zip, zilch! Nothing can get me into the kitchen.
I was in one of my baking ruts the other day, enjoying my time out of the kitchen and ability to fit into my skinny jeans when all of a sudden my phone rang. It was my sister—requesting I make a dessert to bring to her and her husband’s annual Labor Day cookout. It was all I could do not to sigh right into the phone. I was taking time off from baking.
But knowing my sister would have enough on her plate to get together enough food for her guests I agreed to the task, silently promising myself to find the easiest recipe possible to make—that still would taste good for her guests.
Fortunately, the world is full of people who need quick and easy dessert recipes that don’t take long to make, so I had plenty of choices. But when I saw this one I knew it was the winner.

Quick tip: To make neat slices line your pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil and leave enough hanging out on either end to pick up the cooled bars and set on a cutting board to slice. You’ll have perfectly cut bars every time!
