I’ve been married for over a decade now but still find myself frequently looking back fondly on the memories of our wedding and the events leading up to it—especially my bridal shower. My mom and sister did and amazing job making it one of the most special days to share with my closest friends and relatives. And the food (like these amazing lemon blueberry cake and cheesecake bars) was seriously the best ever.
Before having kids and taking on a less demanding professional role I worked as the head baker at a local café. So when my mom insisted that I play a totally hands off role in my bridal shower—including making NONE of the food or desserts—I was resistant. I may or may not have tried to sneak some treats in.
Nonetheless, I should never have worried. After all, my mom is the one who taught me almost all the baking basics and tips and tricks I knew. She had the menu well handles. Yet, until the day of the shower I couldn’t help but feel anxious and wonder if everything would turn out all right.

Quick tip: You can use frozen blueberries for these bars. But must thaw them completely then pat with paper towels to absorb as much of the moisture as possible. The bars will have more color bleeding throughout so the look won’t be quite the same.
