They’re better than Grandma used to make (sorry, Grandma).
Every family has their traditional recipes. You know the ones. They were hand written on note cards and slowly turned yellow with age. And they were most certainly not to be changed.
But I’ve always been a rebel at heart, so one day when I took out my great aunt’s recipe for classic mashed potatoes that we served at any and every family meal I decided that it could use a little sprucing up.
Determined to make the very best potatoes my family had ever had, I set to work. I poured over cookbooks and scrolled through countless recipe sites until I found a recipe that claimed that these spuds were the best ever. And then I set to work.
Lo and behold when I set these down on the table the room grew silent and everyone’s eyes grew big. We all tucked into our supper, and I waited for someone to say something. At long last my mom said, “These potatoes are really good.” And soon everyone else chimed in their agreement as they happily scooped themselves seconds. I knew then a new family recipe had just been added to the list.
