This Is Not Your Typical, Soupy Slow Cooker Meal
One of the first things you will notice about Tiffany’s amazingly simple, yet extremely flavorful, slow cooker recipe is that there is no liquid being added, other than a tiny bit of oil. What? But don’t you have to include some type of liquid to cook in a slow cooker?
Not really. Have you ever noticed the condensation on your slow cooker’s lid after it has been cooking for an hour or so? That is really all the moisture you need for this recipe. But if you are really worried about it, add ¼ cup of liquid on the bottom, or use ¼ cup of liquid Italian dressing, poured over the other ingredients.
Also, because you are cooking this on the Low setting, it will cook very slowly and gently. It is not the same as if you put the ingredients in a roaster pan in your oven and set it for 350 degrees F. You would expect that to dry out. But as long as you leave the top on your slow cooker and let it do its thing, it will generate its own moisture, much the way a terrarium does. If you keep lifting the lid to check on progress, you are going to disrupt this cycle, generating negative results.
