Honestly, this recipe is one of the easiest ways I’ve ever seen to make a Monte Cristo. Instead of standing around frying up sandwiches over and over, you can assemble them all at once, bake, and go! Get your appetizers on the table in about 35 minutes. These also work well as a small entrée or a hearty snack. While these may not be the healthiest lunch you could ever eat, they will definitely be the most delicious. Thanks again to South Your Mouth for sharing this great recipe! I never would have thought of this one on my own.
Ingredients
2 packs sweet dinner rolls such as King’s Hawaiian
½ pound deli-sliced honey ham
½ pound deli-sliced smoked turkey
½ pound gruyere, emmental, or muenster, shredded or sliced
½ cup butter melted
1 egg beaten
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
Powdered sugar
Instructions
Line a 13×9 baking pan with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. Separate the rolls and slice in half horizontally. Place bottom portions of the rolls in the pan. Layer on meat and cheese, then place the top half of the rolls on top to create sandwiches.
Whisk together butter, egg, and mustard, and pour over all the rolls, coating each one. Cover with tented foil and bake at 250 for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and cook for another 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 15 minutes. Remove rolls from pan. When ready to serve, dust with powdered sugar.

Quick tip: Don’t dust the rolls with the powdered sugar until the last second, or the sugar will dissolve into the roll!
